  • ***Online Meeting*** Lancaster, Barrow & Carlisle Section Meeting - RILA Railway Track and Infrastructure Survey System
  • Phil Benzie
  • RILA Railway Track and Infrastructure Survey System (Roy Hickman, Fugro & Vice President, PWI)

This presentation looks at the permanent way and rail infrastructure measurements which have traditionally been required by managers of assets, and how the advance in technology represented by remote data capture systems is allowing these assets to be viewed in a more proactive, controlled manner. lt focuses on the particular data capture and utilisation practices required by the RILA (Rail Infrastructure Alignment Acquisition) rail-mounted survey system, which measures absolute track position and geometry to engineering specification accuracy. This produces survey data which support a range of asset management, maintenance and engineering design applications, including passing clearance analysis and structure gauging.
The presentation also shows how RILA can reduce costs (through its attachment to service trains and consequent high potential data collection speeds) and reduce the risks presented to staff from on-site data collbction. Once captured, data can be used for multiple applications.

Due to the Corona Virus - COVID-19, this meeting has now been rescheduled and moved online.
