  • The Annual PWI Practical Trackwork Challenge: Aims, Formats and Achievements (Malcolm Pearce, Honorary Life Member, PWI)

Many engineers involved in specific aspects of track renewals and maintenance do not have the opportunity to experience the whole process as it happens on site. The Speaker will describe and illustrate how the Practical Trackwork Challenge event provides this opportunity by organising trackwork projects in which delegates participate and have the constituent elements demonstrated and explained. The events take place on a Heritage Railway, managed and supervised by experienced personnel provided by our Corporate Members. The work sites are set up to replicate usual practice on similar work on Network Rail or TfL sites, including the use of OTP and OTM, but without the time pressures and restrictions.

Meeting from 17:00 for light refreshments for a 17:45 start.

N.B. Due to circumstances beyond our control our planned talk: Cardiff Intersection Bridge: Part 2 (Phil Holbourn, Holbourn Engineering Ltd & Network Rail) has had to be cancelled. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause.
