Glasgow Subway - individual with relevant track experience

Closing date: Ongoing

Apply here:

As Glasgow Subway’s Modernisation Programme continues apace, a number of track and infrastructure improvements are planned within the depot and sub-surface tunnel system. Works include urgent tasks to be completed prior to introduction of the new rolling stock and further activities to be programmed for implementation to optimise track and rolling stock performance.

To support the Engineering function in delivering these scopes, SPT is seeking an individual with relevant track experience as a professional engineer within an operational rail environment. The individual should have experience in track infrastructure design, maintenance and renewals, particularly within a slab track environment.

The individual will have proven capability in delivering technical challenge and engineering improvement on a broad range and scale of rail based projects and/or programmes, from maintenance level activity through to major construction contracts. The role will include working with the track maintenance team to translate theoretical designs into deliverable work packages for geometry improvements.

In essence, Subway have completed a complete track design for the network, and we are now looking to implement changes to the track which is of slab track construction. In addition, the conductor rail support system has a number of problems, and there are specific locations where the conductor rail is outwith an acceptable tolerance of the design position. We are looking to itemise the problems, and develop solutions and plans to rectify the problems prior to the new stock starting the testing programme.

The work is paid on a daily rate, nominally for 3 days a week for 6 months, but this is open for discussion and agreement.
