PWI Professional Registration opportunities
Are you ready to develop your professional knowledge and skills?
The PWI has three opportunities available for those looking to develop their own competence and skills, and support the development of others:
• Professional Registration Reviewers
• Technical Report Assessors
• Member of our Professional Development Committee
Suitable individuals for all three roles are those who:
• Are a member of the PWI
• Are professionally registered at IEng or CEng level through any PEI
• Undertake CPD and keep a record of this
As a Professional Registration Reviewer you will be asked to assess EngTech, IEng and CEng professional review applications. You will conduct reviews of written applications, assessing the technical competence and merit of the reports against the PWI Competence and Commitment Criteria. You will also conduct professional review interviews, which seeks to further validate the applicant’s competence and commitment.
Technical Report Assessors review the applications of those candidates who have an academic gap to fill before they can proceed to the professional review. The focus is on academic competence; understanding and applying scientific theories, engineering principles and mathematics. You will conduct an initial review of the technical report, making a recommendation as to the suitability of the candidate to proceed to interview. At interview, you will seek to ensure that the candidates’ academic knowledge meets the standards required for IEng and CEng registration.
All work is conducted remotely and at your own pace, apart from interviews which take place quarterly, face to face and in pairs. You will be required to conduct at least two reviews per year to maintain your competence, but there is no obligation to accept a request to review an application. On average, we would call on you once every 3 months.
Full training for both these roles will be provided and our next workshop is taking place on 14 November 2019 in Euston, London between 10:00-16:00.
We are also looking for five professionally registered engineers to join our Professional Development Committee. This is a sub-committee of our Membership Committee and is responsible for promoting, guiding, developing and auditing the CPD of PWI members. Again, all work is conducted remotely and at your own pace. The committee will meet twice a year and full training and guidance will be provided.
Please give our Registration Manager, Elizabeth Turner a call on 01277 230031 (option 2) or drop her an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest.
These are volunteer roles, but travel expenses will be reimbursed in full.
