Along with 42 other Professional Engineering Institutions, the PWI was pleased to endorse the Royal Academy of Engineering’s National Energy Policy Centre’s submission to government regarding the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s 2020 spending review. The PWI particularly welcomed the RAE’s suggested actions for government including:
- a continuing drive to a lower-carbon economy, reaching the 2050 net zero target;
- focussing incentives on encouraging businesses to deliver more innovation, moving the UK to become “a science, engineering and innovation superpower”;
- long-term planning to deliver the engineering and technical skills required by the UK economy, with a fit for the future education system and plans for workforce training, upskilling and reskilling;
- investing in infrastructure to improve productivity, collective wellbeing, social inclusivity, healthy lifestyle choices, and safety, security and resilience.
